Pirates Sweep Tallahassee

The Pensacola State softball team faced Tallahassee in a double header on Monday and swept the Eagles. Continue reading below for individual game recaps.

TCC 0 PSC 4

The Pirates defeated Tallahassee (TCC) in the first game as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. 

Pensacola got on the board in the first inning when Sajarie Jones led off with a double and scored on a error to give PSC a 1-0. 

Jenna Trim started on in the circle for the Pirates, but had to leave the game in the second inning because of an injury, but Heleena Reinhardt came on in relief and shutdown the Eagles for the rest of the game.

In the second inning Kelsi Bargman singled and eventually scored on a hit from Sajarie Jones and Susanna Soldi drove in the third run with a single to left field.

The bottom of the third saw Jessica Ford single and then score on a double from Monique Poitevin to plate the Pirates fourth run.

The pitching and defense held the rest of the game for the win.

Heleena Reinhardt picked up her first win of the season with six innings of work and only gave up one hit in the game.

Kelsi Bargman was 2-for-2 with a run scored and a walk while Susanna Soldi was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

TCC 5 PSC 9

The second game remained scoreless until the bottom of the third when Mya Geros reached on an error and Sajarie Jones singled and Susanna Soldi walked to load the bases. With two outs Monique Poitevin doubled to drive in two runs and Jessica Ford follwed with an RBI single to make it 3-0. 

In the top of the fourth TCC used a couple of well placed ground balls to plate two and make the score 3-2.

The Pirates immediately answered in their half of the inning when Mya Geros singled and scored on a double from Sajarie Jones. After a ground out Maddy Childs drove a sacrifice fly to left scored Jones and Soldi on an errant throw to make it 6-2. 

TCC capitalized on a single and triple in the top of the fifth to pull back within one run.

The score remained 6-5 until the bottom of the sixth when Susanna Soldi singled and Ellie Hansen walked to set the table for a 3-run homerun from Maddy Childs to give the Pirates a 9-5 advantage. Avery Beauchaine induced a 6-4-3 double play and ground out to end the game and secure the win.

Beauchaine threw a complete game and scattered six hits while striking out four in her sixth win of the season.

Pensacola recorded 12 hits in the game with Sajarie Jones, Susanna Soldi, Maddy Childs, Monique Poitevin and Mya Geros each collecting two hits.

The Pirates will travel to Northwest Florida State on Wednesday for their next double header.
