Softball Wins Two in PSC Invitational

Mother Nature wreaked havoc on the softball schedule over the weekend, but the Pirates were able to get two wins over the weekend. Continue reading for individual game recaps.

Bryant & Stratton (VA) 0 PSC 18 (5 innings)

The Pirates had themselves a day at the plate with multiple standout at bats, leading to a five-inning win. A leadoff walk from Tori Ratigan, followed up by a steal, a pair of hits from Susy Soldi and Georgia Hood, the Pirates were on the board with no end in sight.

Mya Geros had herself a game going 2-for-2 at the plate with a triple, two RBI's and a walk.

Jenna Trim notched 3-for-4 with two singles and a double.

Georgia Hood was a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI's.

Susy Soldi tallied two hits, three RBI's and a walk.

Sophomore pitcher Avery Beauchaine had quite the home outing, throwing a no-hitter and recording five strikeouts in her second win of the season. This marks back to back Beauchaine appearances where she has yet to allow a hit or a run to score.

Coastal Alabama-South 2 PSC 5

The Lady Pirates had a game cut out for them in their win over Coastal Alabama-South. With the Sun Chiefs striking first putting up one in the first inning it was time for the Pirates to answer back.

With a quick leadoff slap by Tori Ratigan followed by a steal and a walk from Susy Soldi the Pirates were in scoring position. Georgia Hood took an outside pitch to right field off the wall recording a triple, scoring both Ratigan and Soldi.

In the top of the second, a string of hits by the Sun Chiefs threatened to shift momentum of the game with a double that scored two, putting them ahead 3-2. In a detrimental turn of events the Sun Chiefs had an illegal batter go to the plate therefore, the third out was awarded and the runs did not count, leaving Pensacola in the lead 2-1.

Two more runs came in the fifth with back-to-back doubles by Bri Duggins and Cameron Buzzell. Followed by a single up the middle by Brandie Seber.

The final run for the Sun Chiefs came in the sixth with a walk, two singles and a walk to score the run.

The Pirates hit back in the bottom of the sixth with Mya Geros leading off with a double, paired with a steal to third base and scoring on a ball back to the pitcher by Tori Ratigan.

Georgia Hood went 2-for-3 with two RBI's and a walk, while Mya Geros went 2-for-3 with a double.

The Pirates worked their pitching staff throwing three pitchers in total. Lydia Drake went two innings striking out four to start the game. Presley Williams came in to get the win, pitching 3.2 innings, allowing one run and struck out three. Georgia Hood entered in the sixth, picking up the save.

The Pirates will face Coastal Alabama – South again Wednesday, February 9th at home, games will be at 3 and 5 pm.
