Pirates Split with Coastal South

Coastal AL-South 5 PSC 13 (6 innings)

Georgia Hood picked up her second win of the season, pitching the full six innings and striking out seven. Pensacola's defense got off to a slow start defensively and the Sun Chiefs scored on an error in the first inning.

The Pirates put their trust in their offense and it paid off. Back-to-back to back singles by Tori Ratigan, Susy Soldi and Georgia Hood loaded the bases in the bottom of the first. Ratigan scored on a passed ball while Soldi and Hood both advanced to the next base. Jenna Trim's groundball to the shortstop allowed Soldi to score and Hood to get to third base. An outfield single by Brianna Duggins sent Hood across the plate for another run. A passed ball and a wild pitch were followed by another outfield single by Cameron Wolfenden to plate the fourth and final run of the inning. 

Pensacola was able to put up four more runs in the second inning with a single from Mya Geros and a fielder's choice to get Georgia Hood on base. Jenna Trim came up solid again with a single to left field scoring Geros. With Hood and Trim on base, Duggins blasted a three run homerun. 

The Sun Chiefs were not done, scoring two runs in the fourth and sixth innings to close the gap to four runs.

The Pirates remained unfazed and kept their foot on the gas, scoring five more runs, ending the game on a run rule walk off single by Cameron Buzzell

The Pirates offense racked up 19 hits in the win. Brianna Duggins went 4-for-4 with five RBI's, while Georgia Hood notched three hits with an RBI double and Jenna Trim recorded two doubles, four RBI's and went 3-for-4 at the plate.

In a battle of bats, the Pirates fell short in their first loss of the season.

Coastal got on the board first in the top of the second with back-to-back walks, followed by a double to left field scoring one. Avery Beauchaine was able to recoup and pick up a strike out to end the inning.

With the Pirates still scoreless, the Sun Chiefs were able to push another run across in the third for a 2-0 lead.

The Pirates settled in and answered back with Tori Ratigan leading off the bottom of the third with a single to left field. Georgia Hood was able to draw a walk, followed by a hit to right field by Jenna Trim to load the bases. Brianna Duggins lined out to center field scoring Ratigan while Hood and Trim both advanced. A great at bat from Cameron Buzzell led to a three run homer to center field putting the Pirates up 4-2.

The bats did not stop for the Sun Chiefs and in the fourth inning they collected three more runs. Left unanswered, Coastal put up another run in each of the fifth and sixth innings.

The Pirates would hit back to score their final two runs of the game in the sixth inning. Mya Geros drove in the fifth run for PSC with a solo homerun. This was followed by three singles in a row from Tori Ratigan, Susy Soldi and Georgia Hood to load the bases. Jenna Trim grounded out to the first baseman to score Ratigan and pull the Pirates within one.

Coastal was able to push one more run across to give them a 2-run cushion going into the bottom of the seventh. 

Pensacola threatened with Kelsi Bargman striking a triple to right field, but the game ended with her on third base.

The Pirates advanced to 7-1 on the season and will travel to Bishop State on Saturday, February 12th for games at 1:00 and 3:00 pm.
