The Pensacola State softball team traveled to Sanford, Florida for the Courtney Miller Invitational this past weekend.

The Pensacola State softball team traveled to Sanford, Florida for the Courtney Miller Invitational this past weekend. They picked up three wins while dropping one game. After returning home they headed to Coastal Alabama-North on Wednesday and swept a doubleheader. Continue reading below for individual game recaps.
PSC 12 Lake Sumter 0 (5 innings)
Pensacola took advantage of passed balls in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead over Lake Sumter. The scoring continued in the second when Cameron Buzzell led off with a laser of a homerun. Later in the inning Susanna Soldi singled to drive in two more runs and extend the lead to 5-0.
The Pirates got back in the score column in the fifth when Tori Ratigan, Susanna Soldi and Georgia Hood all recorded singles to load the bases for Jenna Trim to drive in runs with a double. Eventually Cameron Buzzell drove a double to left to plate two more runs and Cameron Wolfenden pinched hit and drove in another run with a drive down the left field line. Pensacola ended up putting up seven runs in the inning which allowed the game to end early due to the 8-run mercy rule.
Ratigan was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and a walk while Soldi, Buzzell and Mya Geros all added two hits each.
Lydia Drake picked up her second win in the circle while striking out seven and only allowing one hit.
Daytona State 1 PSC 7
In the second game on Saturday PSC sailed to an easy 7-1 victory over Daytona State.
Pensacola opened up scoring in the second inning when Cameron Buzzell hit a solo homerun. The lead was extended to two runs in the third when Cameron Wolfenden drove in Georgia Hood.
The fourth inning saw Hood plate another run with a sacrifice fly and then an RBI double from Susanna Soldi made it 4-0.
An error and single in the fifth allowed Daytona to score the first and only run of the day against PSC.
Cameron Buzzell was 2-for-2 with a homerun and Tori Ratigan was 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Georgia Hood pitched six innings to collect her third win of the season while striking out nine batters. Presley Williams closed out the game in the seventh retiring all three batters she faced.
PSC 2 Central Florida 12 (5 innings)
Pensacola watched the game slip away early and could not recover in a 12-2 loss to the College of Central Florida.
The Pirates had a tough time pushing runs across while the defense struggled to contain CF.
Down by six in the third Georgia Hood and Jenna Trim both picked up RBI singles to plate the Pirates only runs of the game.
Hood was 2-for-3 in the game with an RBI while Susanna Soldi, Jenna Trim, Cameron Buzzell and Mya Geros each added one hit.
Avery Beauchaine took the loss while scattering five hits and allowing only one earned run.
Miami Dade 6 PSC 8
The last game of the weekend started out rough as the Pirates spotted Miami Dade a 5-1 lead after two innings.
The offense found it's footing in the fourth inning when the Pirates used six hits to plate five runs and take the lead.
Dade managed to tie the game in the next inning, but PSC was able to take the lead for good in the bottom of the inning.
Pensacola recorded 15 hits in the game with Tori Ratigan leading the way going 3-for-5 with an RBI and a stolen base. Susanna Soldi was 2-for-3 with an RBI while Georgia Hood, Jenna Trim, Kelsi Bargman and Mya Geros all recorded two hits.
Georgia Hood received the start in the circle and won her fourth game of the year while striking out seven and only allowing one earned run. Lydia Drake came on in relief and threw the final three innings not allowing any runs and striking out five to record her first save of the season.
PSC 7 Coastal Alabama-North 0
Lydia Drake did not allow a single run against the Eagles, throwing a complete game shutout and leading the Pirates to a 7-0 victory.
As the first batter of the game Tori Ratigan drove a ball to the left field corner and wheeled around the bases for an inside the park homerun.
A pair of walks and a sacrifice fly from Cameron Buzzell gave PSC a 2-0 lead in the third. They added four runs in the fifth highlighted by a 3-run homerun from Jenna Trim.
Drake recorded her third win of the season going the distance and striking out three while scattering three hits.
Jenna Trim was 3-for-4 in the game with three RBI's from her homerun. Tori Ratigan was 2-for-4 with an RBI, HR and two runs scored.
PSC 19 Coastal Alabama-North 8 (6 innings)
The second game saw the Pirates jump out to a 5-0 lead after two innings thanks to a grand slam off the bat of Georgia Hood.
The score was 7-3 in favor of PSC going into the bottom of the fifth when Coastal was able to take advantage of defensive miscues and go ahead 8-7.
Pensacola stopped messing around in the sixth and plated a season high 12 runs in the inning. It started with a solo bomb to center from Georgia Hood and another highlight was a 3-run homerun from pinch hitter Brianna Duggins. Pensacola sent 17 batters to the plate in the inning and Jenna Trim and Cameron Wolfenden both had two hits in the inning.
Georgia Hood was 3-for-4 in the game with two homeruns and six RBI's. Tori Ratigan, Jenna Trim, Cameron Wolfenden and Mya Geros each added two hits.
Avery Beauchaine secured the win while throwing four innings and only allowing two earned runs with three stirkeouts. Presley Williams came on in relief and struck out three while only allowing two hits.
The Pirates will host Lurleen B. Wallace on Sunday at 12:00 and 2:00.
