Softball Puts on Offensive Show

Carl Sandburg 0 PSC 18 (5 innings)

The Pensacola State softball team handily defeated Carl Sandburg 18-0 in the first game on Monday.

After scoring three runs in the first inning the Pirates continued to score in every frame including seven runs in both the second and third innings.

Pensacola recorded 13 hits in the game with Tori Ratigan going a perfect 3-for-3 with an RBI and two stolen bases. Cameron Buzzell was 2-for-2 with a homerun and two RBI's while Brianna Duggins was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI's. Cameron Wolfenden came off the bench to to add two doubles with three RBI's.

Three pitchers combined to hold the opponent to only one hit on the day. Lydia Drake started the game and retired every batter she faced while striking out three. Georgia Hood took over and was credited with the win as she did not allow any hits and struck out one, while Avery Beauchaine polished the game off in the fifth.

In the second game Pensacola used a 10 run fourth to seal the run rule victory.

The offense exploded for 18 hits with 10 different batters recording hits in the game. Susanna Soldi and Georgia Hood were both 3-for-4 and added three RBI's. Tori Ratigan, Cameron Buzzell, Maddison Coones and Mya Geros each added two hits. There were four doubles hit in the game one each from Hood, Buzzell, Coones and Geros. Pensacola also showcased their speed and swiped four stolen bases with Tori Ratigan collecting two while Brandie Seber and Mya Geros added one each.

It was another pitch by committee game as Avery Beauchaine started and struck out one batter in one inning of work. Presley Williams was middle relief and threw two innings and struck out one while only allowing two hits. Jenna Trim closed out the game and was awarded the win, throwing two innings and striking out three.

Pensacola is scheduled to start Panhandle play this weekend when they travel to Panama City for the conference round robin. At the moment they are scheduled to face Gulf Coast and Northwest Florida on Friday, then Tallahassee and Chipola on Saturday.
