Softball Splits with Chipola and NWF

The no. 10 ranked Pensacola State softball team split a doubleheader at home on Monday night with Chipola and then traveled to Northwest Florida and split with them Wednesday. Continue reading below for individual game recaps.

#9 Chipola 3 #10 PSC 5

In the first game Chipola put up one run in the first inning and the score remained until the bottom of the fourth when PSC got on the board. Mya Geros used her speed to reach on a bunt single and when she stole second the throw got away and Geros motored all the way home to tie the game at one.

In the bottom of the sixth Lydia Drake drew a walk and Isabelle Hanna singled to set the table. After a pop out for the second out Tori Ratigan walked to load the bases. Susanna Soldi singled to left to drive in two runs before Georgia Hood followed with a 2-RBI double to give Pensacola a 5-1 lead.

Chipola used a walk and back-to-back singled to threaten in the seventh, but a fly out ended the game at 5-3.

Susanna Soldi paced the offense going 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI's while Isabelle Hanna was 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Lydia Drake won her ninth game of the year going the distance and only giving up four hits while striking out six.

#9 Chipola 11 #10 PSC 3 (5 innings)

The second game of the doubleheader slipped away early from the Pirates and they could not recover.

Chipola put up three runs in the first and the third before the Pirates could get on the board. Pensacola was able to put up three runs in the third courtesy of singles from Mya Geros and Tori Ratigan while Georgia Hood and Cameron Buzzell chipped in doubles.

Yet Chipola continued to score five more in the game and end the contest early.

Cameron Buzzell was 2-for-3 in the game with a double and RBI.

#10 PSC 6 #14 NWF 9

The Raiders continued to be a thorn in the Pirates side in the first game on Wednesday winning 9-6.

Pensacola scored in the top of the third when Mya Geros bunted and took second on an error then she scored on a single from Tori Ratigan. The lead did not last long as NWF used a 2-run homerun to take the lead on the bottom of the inning.

Brianna Duggins smacked a solo homerun in the fourth to tie the game again in the top of the fourth. Yet the Raiders capitalized on five singles in their half of the inning to pull ahead 5-2.

In the fifth Pensacola got within one run courtersy of an RBI single from Duggins and then Abby Gatza drew a bases loaded walk to plate PSC's fourth run. Again NWF answered in their half plating four runs on singles and an error.

Down 9-4, Pensacola tried to rally in the sixth when Tori Ratigan walked and Susanna Soldi reached on an error to set the table for Georgia Hood and Jenna Trim to drive in one run each with back-to-back singles. The rally ended and the score held at 9-6 the rest of the game.

The Pirates did record 11 hits in the game with Brianna Duggins and Georgia Hood leading the way both going 3-for-4. Lydia Drake suffered her first loss of the season as she started the game and went 3.1 innings while Presley Williams and Avery Beauchaine saw action in relief.

#10 PSC 7 #14 NWF 1

Pensacola bounced back in the second game and won handily 7-1.

Northwest plated one run in the first inning before the Pirates go on the board in the fourth. Georgia Hood singled and then Jenna Trim drove a homerun over the center field fence to give PSC a 2-1 lead. 

The Pirates extended their lead in the fifth when Mya Geros walked and later scored on a single from Susanna Soldi. With Soldi at second Georgia Hood hit a missile over the left field fence to make it 5-1.

Two more insurance runs were secured in the seventh courtesy of an error and RBI single from Hood.

Georgia Hood was 3-for-4 with a homerun and three RBI's while Susanna Soldi was 2-for-4 with two RBI's.

Georgia Hood also picked up the win in the circle, her eighth of the season, throwing a complete game scattering seven hits and striking out seven.

Pensacola will travel to Gulf Coast State on Saturday to make up the games rained out last week.
