Hood Named State Player of the Year; Five Recognized
The FCSAA has announced the 2022 All-State/NJCAA Region 8 Softball Teams.
The FCSAA has announced the 2022 All-State/NJCAA Region 8 Softball Teams and the Pirates not only have the Player the of the Year, but also placed a total of five on the teams.
Versatile freshman Georgia Hood was selected the State Player of the Year. Voted the Panhandle Conference Player of the Year, Hood led PSC to the Panhandle Championship and a No. 2 Region 8/No. 11 NJCAA ranking to end the regular season. She currently leads Region 8 with 62 RBI (had a season-high eight vs. USC-Union) and is fourth with a .450 batting average. She started the season with an 11-game hit streak and reached base safely in the Pirates' first 18 games. Hood also starred in the circle for the Pirates, posting a record of 11-2 and a 1.48 ERA. In 66.1 innings pitched, she struck out 83 and did not allow a home run. Hood is a two-time Region 8 Player of the Week recipient.
Freshman, shortstop Tori Ratigan was named the Region 8 First Team. In 46 games she accrued a .428 batting average, 23 RBI, 57 runs scored and 20 stolen bases. Ratigan was voted First Team All-Panhandle and ranks sixth in Region 8 in on-base percentage (.514) and second in runs. She was named Region 8 Player of the Week on February 15.
Jenna Trim was named to the Region 8 Second Team. Trim split time at both corners while also throwing 35.1 innings in the circle. She batted .384 with, 6 home runs, 45 RBI and 32 runs scored. Trim was voted First Team All-Panhandle and her 16 doubles rank ninth in Region 8.
Mya Geros joins Trim on the Region 8 Second Team as an outfielder. She was second on the team in batting average (.430) and collected 3 home runs, 34 RBI, 39 runs and 11 stolen bases. Geros was voted First Team All-Panhandle and is ranked eighth in Region 8 in batting average.
Freshman, southpaw hurler Lydia Drake rounds out the Pirates selection with a Region 8 Second Team nod. She had 21 appearances with a 14-1 record and 1 save. Her ERA was a solid 1.74 over 108.1 innings pitched. She tallied 112 strikeouts and was voted First Team All-Panhandle. Drake was named Region 8 Pitcher of the Week on April 26 and NJCAA Pitcher of the Week a day later. She ranks seventh in Region 8 in wins, sixth in complete games (13), fifth in shutouts (5), eighth in ERA and seventh in strikeouts.
