Pirates Win First Game at State
The Pensacola State softball team opened the State Tournament with a 5-2 win over Miami Dade on Friday afternoon.

In the bottom of the third Susanna Soldi led off with a single and was followed by Georgia Hood drawing a walk. Jenna Trim sacrifice bunted to move both runner into scoring position and Brianna Duggin stepped to the plate and drove a deep sacrifice fly to right to give PSC a 1-0 lead.
The Sharks took advantage of a couple free passes and a passed ball to score two runs in the fifth to go ahead.
With one out in the sixth, the Pirates used singles from Lydia Drake, Isabelle Hanna and Mya Geros to load the bases with one out. Susanna Soldi worked the count and drew an RBI walk to tie the game. Then State Player of the Year, Georgia Hood, drove a single up the middle to plate two more runs. Jenna Trim rounded out the scoring with an RBI single to give Pensacola a 5-2 lead.
The defense held in the top of the seventh and PSC secured the first round victory.
Jenna Trim was 2-for-3 in the game with an RBI while Georgia Hood was 1-for-2 with two walks and two RBI.
Lydia Drake went the distance on the mound and struck out three while scattering six hits.
The Pirates will return to action tomorrow when they face the Central Florida Patriots at 4:00 pm eastern time.
