Softball Adds Three Wins

The Pensacola State softball team traveled to Longwood, Florida for the Courtney Miller Invitational this past weekend. They won three of their four games. Continue reading below for individual game recaps.

PSC 7 St. John's River 0

The Pirates started the weekend with a shutout victory over St. John's River. They put up three runs in the first inning and never looked back.

Lydia Drake was dominant in the circle throwing a complete game with nine strikeouts and only allowed one hit.

Georgia Hood was 2-for-3 with a home run, double, two RBI, walk and two runs scored. Kylee Crowder was also 2-for-3 with two doubles and two runs scored. Tori Ratigan was 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored, while Skylar Buzbee added a hit, walk and two RBI.

Eastern Florida 8 PSC 2

In the second game of the day the Pirates could not string together runs and fell to Eastern Florida.

Brianna Duggins was 2-for-3 with a double and RBI while Georgia Hood was 2-for-4 and Maddi Coones added a hit and RBI.

FSW 5 PSC 9

Pensacola opened the day with an exciting win over Florida Southwestern.

FSW got on the board with a run in the top of the first, but PSC wasted no time responding in the bottom of the inning. Susanna Soldi singled and advanced to third on a double from Bre'Asia Thomas and both runners scored on a single from Kylee Crowder.

A home run from FSW in the second tied the game at two in the second and later took a 4-2 lead with a run each in the fourth and fifth.

The Pirates came to bat in the bottom of the fifth and exploded for seven runs. With bases loaded and one out, Skylar Buzbee singled to drive in two runs and tie the game. Maddi Coones pinched hit and drove in the go ahead run. She was followed by a two RBI double off the bat of Samantha Ladowski. Susanna Soldi and Georgia Hood added RBI singles to make it 9-4. 

Presley Williams entered the circle in the sixth inning and kept the Buccaneers at bay and picked up the win. She allowed three hits and one run. Gabriella Lindsey started the game and threw five innings and struck out one and only allowed two earned runs in a strong outing.

Susanna Soldi and Brianna Duggins were both 3-for-4 with a run scored and Soldi added an RBI. Kylee Crowder, Skylar Buzbee and Samanth Ladowski each drove in two runs.

PSC 6 Santa Fe 5

The Pirates closed out the weekend with a thrilling 6-5 win over Santa Fe.

Santa Fe went up by two in the first inning, but PSC took the lead in the third thanks to a 3-run home run from Georgia Hood. They extended their lead in the fifth Susanna Soldi singled, Georgia Hood walked and Bre'Asia Thomas singled to load the bases. Kylee Crowder drew a walk to plate one run and Brianna Duggins singled to make it 5-3.

Pensacola added another insurance run in the top of the seventh that proved vital. Marina Goins stepped in the pinch hit and drove an RBI double to the fence to make it 6-3.

Santa Fe ended up threatening in the bottom of the seventh when an error extended the game, but the Pirates held on for the victory.

Georgia Hood was 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI while Tori Ratigan was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Brandie Seber also added a double.

Madison Sabo started the game and threw three innings only allowing two hits and striking out four. Lydia Drake finished the game and was credited with the win going four innings, striking out five and allowing no earned runs.
