Softball Sweeps TCC and Gulf Coast

The Pensacola State softball team closed out the week with sweeps over Tallahassee and Gulf Coast Coast. Continue reading below for individual game recaps.

TCC 0 PSC 3

The Pirates got on the board immediately in the first when Tori Ratigan reached on an error and scored on a double from Susanna Soldi

They added another in the third when Soldi led off with a single and later scored on a ball off the bat of Brandie Seber

In the fifth, Georgia Hood rounded out the scoring with a solo home run. 

Lydia Drake threw a complete game for her 10th win of the season and only allowed three hits while striking out three.

TCC 2 PSC 10 (6 innings)

In the second game, Pensacola's first four batters singled to help them jump out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning and they never looked back. 

After TCC scored two runs in the top of the third the Pirates responded with three of their own in the bottom of the inning highlighted by a 2-RBI single from Samantha Ladowski.

PSC walked it off in the bottom of the sixth by scoring three runs. Nine different batters collected hits in the game with Brianna Duggins going 2-for-3 with an RBI and Bre'Asia Thomas and Samantha Ladowski were both 2-for-4 with three RBI each.

Gabriella Lindsey started the game and picked up the win throwing 5.2 innings. Presley Williams entered the again in the fifth and retired the only batter she faced.

PSC 5 Gulf Coast 4

It took Pensacola some time to get going, but they finished the game strong to pull out the win.

Gulf Coast used a 2-run home run in the second to get on the board and added a third run the next inning. 

The fourth inning started with Susanna Soldi walking and Georgia Hood singling before Kylie Crowder blasted her seventh home run of the season to tie the game.

PSC took the lead in the fifth when Brianna Duggins led off with a double and scored on a single from Susanna Soldi. Gulf Coast pulled back even in the bottom of inning and the teams headed into the 7th locked at 4-4.

Tori Ratigan led off the seventh with s single and later scored what proved to be the winning run on an RBI double from Georgia Hood.

Lydia Drake retired the side in order to finish the game and pick up the complete game win.

Susanna Soldi and Georgia Hood had identical lines in the game both going 2-for-3 with an RBI, run scored, double and walk.

PSC 7 Gulf Coast 6

The final game of the day proved to be a doozy, but the Pirates prevailed to secure the sweep.

Gulf Coast immediately went up three in the first inning thanks to a 3-run home run. They added another run in the third for a four run cushion.

The fourth inning saw the Pirates bat around and tie the game at four despite only collecting one hit in the inning. They capitalized on four walks, two errors and a sacrifice fly to tie the game.

Immediately in the bottom of the inning the Commodores pulled back ahead 5-4. Again, the Pirates answered when Maddi Coones drew a walk and eventually scored on a missplayed ball to tie the game again. 

Madison Sabo came on as the third PSC pitcher in the bottom of the fifth and was welcomed to the game with a solo blast to left field to give Gulf Coast the lead. After getting that out of the way, Sabo settled in and only allowed two more hits and kept the Commodores at bay.

The top of the seventh saw Tori Ratigan reach on an error and advance to second on a walk to Susanna Soldi before Georgia Hood again stepped to the plate and drove a double into the right center gap to score both runners give Pensacola a 7-6 lead they did not relinquish. 

Presley Williams threw 3.2 innings of middle relief and only allowed two earned runs while Madison Sabo was awarded the win for throwing the final three innings and only allowing one run.
