Pirates Pick Up Two More Wins

On Tuesday of this past week the Pirate softball team traveled to Northwest Florida for the last doubleheader of Panhandle play. The following day they hit the road to Tallahassee to start the remaining cycle of conference games. Continue reading below for individual game recaps.

PSC 9 NWF 0 (5 innings)

The Pirates displayed their power in the first game and used two 3-run home runs to help topple the Raiders.

Pensacola got on the board in the first inning when Susanna Soldi tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly from Georgia Hood. The Raiders threatened in their half of the inning by loading the bases with no outs, but Lydia Drake buckled down in the circle and escaped without allowing a run.

With two outs in the top of the third Georgia Hood blasted her 15th home run of the season to give PSC a 4-0 lead.

The lead was extended in the fifth when the Pirates put five more runs on the board with the highlight being Kylee Crowder smashing a 3-run home run over the scoreboard.

After the tough first inning Lydia Drake did not allow another hit and only one runner reached base as she finished the day striking out eight.

PSC 1 NWF 15 (5 innings)

Northwest turned the table in the second game and easily took down the Pirates. Pensacola's lone run was scored by Susanna Soldi in the first inning.

Tori Ratigan and Georgia Hood picked up the only hits for PSC in the game.

PSC 10 TCC 8

The Pirates had a quick turnaround and headed to Tallahassee on Wednesday due to the game being moved up because of potential rain.

Pensacola plated two runs in the first inning courtesy of three walks, an error and RBI single from Brandie Seber.

After a solo home run from Tallahassee in the bottom of the second the Pirates added four runs in the top of the third. Bre'Asia Thomas and Samantha Ladowski had RBI singles and both scored in the inning. The Eagle responded with a 2-run home run in the bottom half to cut the lead to three.

The top of the fourth saw PSC capitalize on three singles and walk to extend their lead to 8-3 and the score stayed there until the fifth when TCC belted another home run to make it 8-5.

Two more insurance runs were added by the Pirates in the top of the sixth and they proved crucial because Tallahasse was able to score three runs in the seventh before three ground outs ended the game.

Georgia Hood, Brandie Seber and Brianna Duggins were all 2-for-4 in the game with Duggins and Samantha Ladowski chipping in two RBI's each.

Lydia Drake fought hard for her 14th win of the season going the distance in the circle.
