The Pensacola State softball team hosted Chipola in the conference playoff and secured their bid to the State Tournament by defeating the Indians 6-3.
The Pirates got on the board in the first inning when Tori Ratigan and Susanna Soldi drew walks and then a double steal not only got Ratigan to third base, but she scored on the errant throw. Then Georgia Hood hit a liner to third that plated Soldi giving PSC a 2-0 lead.
It remained 2-0 until the third when four Pirates singled in a row and a fielder's choice helped give them a 5-0 lead.
Chipola capitalized in the fifth inning and was able to score three runs before the Pirates got out of the jam.
For good measure Georgia Hood struck in the bottom of the sixth with her 16th home run of the year to give PSC a 6-3 cushion.
The Indians got one runner on base in the seventh, but Lydia Drake struck out the final batter to end the game.
Georgia Hood was 2-for-3 with two RBI's and a home run while Kylee Crowder was 2-for-4 with one run scored.
Lydia Drake secured her 17th win of the season going the distance and striking out seven while only allowing two earned runs.
The Pirates will head to the State Tournament in Clermont, Florida and will open with Florida Southwestern at 10:00 am eastern standard time on May 5th.
