Pirates Eliminate St. Pete

The Pensacola State softball team defeated St. Petersburg in a tough 6-5 game Saturday morning.

St. Pete got on the board in the first inning with two runs and the score remained 2-0 until the Pirates batted around in the third to score six runs. 

Tori Ratigan singled and Susanna Soldi walked to start the inning. A double steal put both runners in scoring position for Bre'Asia Thomas to single and drive in both and tie the game. Brianna Duggins followed with a single and stole second to give PSC runners on 2nd and 3rd and setup a sacrifice fly from Skylar Buzbee. Brandie Seber stepped to the plate and singled to drive in the fourth run. Hannah Waltman and Samantha Ladowski walked to load the bases for Ratigan to pick up her second single of the inning and drive in two more runs and give PSC a 6-2 lead.

It remained 6-2 until the fifth when St. Pete was able to plate three runs and pull with in one run before Lydia Drake picked up a strike out to end the threat.

The Titans threatened again in the seventh and Gabriella Lindsey entered the circle with the bases loaded and one out. She induced a ground ball to third that Thomas threw home to get the lead out at the plate. The next batter worked the count but Lindsey was able to get her to hit a ground ball to Ratigan and short and she tossed it to second to end the game.

Tori Ratigan was 3-for-4 in the game with an RBI and stolen base. Brandie Seber was 2-for-3 with a double, RBI and run scored. 

Lydia Drake picked up the win strikng out nine and only allowing three earned runs. Gabriella Lindsey was credited with the save.

Pensacola will face the loser of the Northwest Florida and Central Florida game. The game will be at 1:00 pm EST on Sunday.
