Pirates Finish Big Week with Four Wins

The Pensacola State softball team played six games last week and came out with a record of 4-2. Continue reading below for individual game recaps.

PSC 3 Coastal Alabama-South 6

An error in the first inning gave Coastal the opportunity to start the game with two runs on Wednesday. PSC made it 2-1 in the third when Hannah Waltman doubled and then scored on Marina Goins single to right.

A home run in the fourth allowed Coastal to extend their lead to 6-1. Karri Pritchard struck a solo home run in the fifth to score PSC's second run and Kylee Crowder doubled to drive in Goins for the Pirates final run of the game.

Karri Pritchard led the Pirates at the plate going 2-for-4 while collecting her sixth home run of the season.

PSC 7 Coastal Alabama-South 6

The bats came alive in the second game and the Pirates used 12 hits to score seven runs.

Coastal got on the board first with one run in the opening frame, but PSC took the lead in the third when Cara Willis singled and later scored on an errant throw. Marina Goins scored the second run courtesy of a passed ball.

In the fourth, Brooke Vega hit her first home run of the year with a solo shot to right field. Vega stayed hot at the plate and after a pitching change in the fifth she blasted a 3-run home run to give PSC a 6-1 lead.

An error and double in the bottom of the fifth helped Coastal score three runs and make it 6-4.

The top of the sixth saw Karri Pritchard, Marina Goins and Bre'Asia Thomas hit consecutive singles to give the Pirates what turned out to be a very important insurance run.

Down 7-5, Coastal had a runner on second with two out when they drove a ball to center to plate one run, but the batter was cut down at second to end the game a secure the win.

Brooke Vega was a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI's, two home runs and two runs scored. Cara Willis and Bre'Asia Thomas we both 2-for-4.

Kylie Jarman picked up the win throwing four innings and only allowing three hits and one earned run. Yala Zwakman came on to close the game and recorded a save, throwing three innings and only allowing one earned run.

PSC 11 East Georgia 0 (5 innings)

Pensacola made short work of East Georgia in their opening game of the CMI tournament on Saturday.

The Pirates collected 11 hits in the game with Karri Pritchard, Marina Goins, Kylee Crowder and Kasey Markusic all going 2-for-3. Pritchard and Crowder both hit home runs in the game. Crowder, Markusic and Bre'Asia Thomas all added doubles.

Madison Sabo was in control the whole game in the circle and only gave up one hit.

Daytona State 7 PSC 8

The Pirates picked up a thrilling come from behind victory to take down Daytona State in the final inning.

A grand slam in the top of the first helped Daytona go up by five runs immediately. PSC responded in the bottom of the frame and scored two runs with the help of a double from Marina Goins and sacrifice fly from Kylee Crowder.

Daytona extended their lead to 7-2 in the second inning thanks to another home run. Madison Sabo came on in relief and shutdown the Falcons for the rest of the game.

In the fifth, RBI singles from Goins and Crowder made the score 7-4 and the Pirates poured it on in the bottom of the seventh.

Marina Goins, Kylee Crowder and Bre'Asia Thomas pounded out three doubles in the row to make it 7-6 with no outs. Kasey Markusic singled and Brooke Vega followed with an RBI single to tie the game. Pinch hitter Abby Mclean stepped up to the plate and calmly drove a line drive to right center to complete the comeback and give PSC the walk off victory.

Marina Goins was 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI. Kylee Crowder was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI while Abbie Morris added two hits.

Madison Sabo got her second win of the day throwing six innings and only allowing three hits while striking out three.

PSC 5 Seminole State 9

Pensacola started out hot against the host Raiders but saw the game slip away late.

The Pirates went up 4-0 in the second with the help of errors and an RBI double from Brooke Vega. Seminole responded with two runs in the bottom of the frame and PSC plated what turned out to be their final run of the game in the third when Kasey Markusic singled to drive in Bre'Asia Thomas.

Seminole used four hits and an error in the bottom of the fifth to score four runs and take the lead for good.

Marina Goins was 2-for-4 with a double while Cara Willis, Kasey Markusic and Brooke Vega all added one hit and one RBI.

Oakland 0 PSC 13 (5 innings)

PSC bounced back with a dominating performance to close the weekend out with a win.

The Pirate offense collected 15 hits with 10 players contributing. Kylee Crowder was perfect going 3-for-3 with a double, triple and three RBI. Cara Willis, Abbie Morris and Hannah Waltman each added two hits in the game.

Madison Sabo added her third win of the weekend throwing a complete game and striking out nine.
