PSC 4 Coastal AL-South 2
Pensacola State got off to a smashing start to the season in their first game against Coastal Alabama-South. The Pirates showcased their offensive power early on, with Karri Pritchard leading off with a home run. Katie Morgan followed with a single, and Gabbie York doubled, setting the stage for Alexis Zerquera to blast a three-run home run.
Despite collecting nine hits, the Pirates' scoring ended there. Coastal Alabama-South managed to get on the board in the fifth inning with a double and a home run, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Pirates' lead. Pensacola State secured a 4-2 victory.
Lynden Cole was perfect in the game, going 2-for-2, while Katie Morgan went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. Yala Zwakman pitched a complete game, scattering seven hits and striking out three to earn the win.
PSC 11 Coastal AL-South 3 (5 innings)
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Pirates' offense came alive, racking up 17 hits and 11 runs against Coastal Alabama-South. The highlight of the game was the third inning, where Pensacola State College (PSC) scored eight runs, featuring home runs from Megan LaMorte, Morgan Maples, and Katie Morgan.
Every batter in the Pirates' lineup recorded at least one hit, with Katie Morgan leading the charge. Morgan went 4-for-4 with three RBIs, a double, and a home run. Alexis Zerquera also had a strong performance, going 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Morgan Maples contributed by going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a home run. Gabbie York and Keira Trim each added two hits to the tally.
On the mound, freshman Alexis Zerquera pitched five solid innings, giving up just four hits while striking out three batters.
Next up, Pensacola State will host John A. Logan, Motlow, Roane State, and Coastal Alabama-South on February 7th and 8th. The Pirates are looking to continue their strong start to the season with these upcoming matchups.
