Pirates Fight Through a Tough Weekend

The Pensacola State College (PSC) Pirates showcased their resilience and talent at the Coyote Classic, starting strong but facing some tough competition along the way.

PSC 7 Northwest Shoals 0

The Pirates dominated their first game, defeating Northwest Shoals 7-0. Karri Pritchard and Gabbie York were standout performers, both going 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Anna Reily contributed two hits, while Keira Trim added a double and two RBIs. Yala Zwakman was stellar on the mound, throwing a complete game with seven strikeouts to secure the win.

PSC 1 Jones College 5

In their second game, PSC faced a formidable opponent in Jones College, falling 5-1. Anna Reily led the Pirates offensively with two hits, and Abby McLean drove in the lone run. Despite the loss, Kylie Jarman provided a strong relief performance, pitching 1.2 innings without allowing a hit.

PSC 1 Mississippi Gulf Coast 9 (5 inn.)

The Pirates struggled in their third game, losing 9-1 to Mississippi Gulf Coast in five innings. Kayleigh Cuccia drove in the only run for PSC, as they were outmatched in all statistical categories.

PSC 3 Meridian 2

Pensacola rebounded in their final game of the Classic with a thrilling 3-2 victory against Meridian. The game was tied 1-1 going into the sixth inning. With two outs, Megan Lamorte singled and advanced to third on a single from Kayleigh Cuccia. A double steal gave PSC a one-run lead. Gabbie York extended the lead to 3-1 in the seventh with a home run to right field. Meridian fought back with back-to-back triples in the bottom of the seventh to make it 3-2. Kylie Jarman entered the game in relief and struck out the first batter she faced. On the next play, Meridian hit a ground ball to second, which Cuccia threw to first for the second out, and Lamorte cut down the runner at the plate to end the game. Alexis Zerquera earned the win, pitching six innings, while Jarman recorded her first save of the year.
