The Pirates made their debut at the Juco Extravaganza in Oxford, AL, facing a weekend of chilly weather and tough competition.
In their first game, the Pirates faced Shelton State and mounted a late-game rally that ultimately fell just short, resulting in an 8-6 loss. The game started off rough for Pensacola, as they spotted Shelton State eight runs in the first two innings. However, the Pirates' pitchers found their rhythm and settled in, preventing further damage.
Offensively, Kayleigh Cuccia led the charge with two hits, including a double. Gabbie York contributed significantly with three RBIs, while Alexis Zerquera added a double and two RBIs to the team's efforts. On the mound, Kylie Jarman delivered a strong performance in relief, pitching the final two innings allowing only one hit and striking out four.
PSC 4 Snow College 5
The Pirates faced another tough challenge as they took on Snow College, starting slow but showing resilience throughout the game. The Badgers jumped to an early lead, scoring three runs in the first inning. However, the Pirates fought back, plating two runs in the third inning and a solo home run from Katelyn Morgan tied the game in the fifth.
Snow College regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning, making it 4-3. The Pirates responded in the top of the seventh, pushing a run across thanks to an RBI single from Alexis Zerquera to stay in the game. Unfortunately, with two outs in the bottom of the seventh the Badgers clean up hitter drove a double into the gap to plate the winning run.
Katelyn Morgan, Gabbie York, and Alexis Zerquera each contributed with two hits, showcasing their offensive skills. On the mound, Yala Zwakman took the loss but delivered a solid performance after the first inning, pitching six strong innings with seven strikeouts.
PSC 2 Central AL 0
The Pirates finally returned to the win column with a solid 2-0 victory over Central Alabama on Signature Field to kick off their Saturday games. The team showcased both strong pitching and timely hitting to secure the win.
Yala Zwakman was exceptional on the mound, throwing a gem of a game. She recorded a one-hitter and struck out four batters, earning her fourth win of the season. Zwakman's dominant performance kept Central Alabama's offense in check throughout the game.
Offensively, Abby McLean was the standout player for the Pirates. She recorded two hits, including the crucial go-ahead single to right field that drove in both of the team's runs. McLean's timely hitting provided the necessary support for Zwakman's stellar pitching effort.
PSC 0 Wallace Hanceville 6
The final game of the weekend was only the second time all season the Pirates have been shutout. Despite five hits PSC could not string anything together and fell to Hanceville. The defense struggled to support the pitching staff as five of the runs scored by Wallace were unearned.
