Pirates Sweep Carl Sandburg

The Pensacola State College Pirates showcased their prowess on Tuesday, sweeping a doubleheader against Carl Sandburg in a decisive final tune-up before Panhandle play.

Carl Sandburg 1 PSC 9 (6 innings)

The Pirates wasted no time in the first game, sending 10 batters to the plate and scoring five runs in the first inning. Megan LaMorte's RBI double was the highlight of the inning. The Pirates continued their offensive onslaught in the second inning, adding three more runs, including sacrifice flies from Alexis Zerquera and Abby McLean. Carl Sandburg managed to score their lone run in the third inning, but the game ended early in the sixth when a ground ball to second base scored PSC's ninth run.

• Gabbie York: 2-for-2 with a triple, RBI, and two runs scored.
• Megan LaMorte: 2-for-3 with a double and RBI.
• Morgan Maples and Abby McLean: Each contributed two RBIs.

Carl Sandburg 0 PSC 8 (5 innings)

The second game was a shutout that ended in five innings. Karri Pritchard led off the game with a double and scored on a single from Gabbie York. The Pirates added one more run in the inning. An RBI triple from Alexis Zerquera in the third made it 3-0. Pensacola reeled off five runs in the fourth inning to establish the run rule.

• Kylie Jarman: Threw a gem, allowing only one hit and striking out six.

The Pirates will open Panhandle play on Saturday in Marianna, FL against Chipola College.
