The Pensacola State College Pirates split a doubleheader against Tallahassee on Saturday. In the first game, the Eagles struck first, stringing together four singles in the third inning to take a 2-0 lead. Pensacola finally got on the board in the sixth inning. Katelyn Morgan led off with a single and advanced to third on Alexis Zerquera's double. Morgan Maples then drove both runs in with a single to tie the game. With Maples on second base, Abbie Morris hit a hard ground ball that ricocheted off the shortstop's glove into left field, allowing Maples to score the go-ahead run.
Tallahassee threatened in the bottom of the sixth with a runner on third and two outs, but Karri Pritchard made a diving play up the middle and got the out at first to end the inning. Anna Reily entered the circle in the fourth inning and pitched 3.1 innings in relief to earn the win. Kylie Jarman closed the game in the seventh to pick up the save. Morgan Maples was a standout, going 3-for-3, while Gabbie York added two hits.
In the second game, the wheels came off for the Pirates as they lost 7-1. Despite matching Tallahassee with seven hits, PSC could not string theirs together. Katelyn Morgan was 2-for-4 in the game.
The Pirates return to action on Wednesday when they host Gulf Coast State at 4:00 and 6:00 PM.
