The Pirate softball team ended their season on a high note with a nail-biting 5-4 victory over Gulf Coast State on Tuesday. The game was particularly special as it was Sophomore Day, and all seven sophomores were featured in the starting lineup.
The Commodores took an early lead, scoring one run in the first inning. However, the Pirates quickly responded in the second inning. Gabbie York and Morgan Maples reached base on errors, setting the stage for Kylie Jarman, who delivered an RBI single to tie the game.
The fourth inning proved to be pivotal for the Pirates. They batted around and scored four runs, capitalizing on an error and singles from Maples, Jarman, and Abbie Morris. This offensive burst gave the Pirates a 5-2 lead heading into the final frame.
Gulf Coast State made an effort to come back, scoring two runs on sacrifice flies in the last inning. With the tying run on second base, Yala Zwakman showed her poise and determination, striking out the final batter to secure the win. This marked Zwakman's 10th win of the season, as she pitched a complete game, striking out eight batters.
Kylie Jarman had an impressive performance, going 2-for-3 with an RBI, contributing significantly to the Pirates' victory.
