Lady Pirates Take Down #3 Gulf Coast

The Lady Pirate basketball team knocked off nationally ranked no. 3 Gulf Coast State 77-73 last night in Hartsell Arena.

Pensacola State battle in the first half and found themselves down 41-37 at halftime, but a strong third quarter put them in the lead as they went into the final quarter.

Gulf Coast fought back to go ahead and ZaMaria Polk tied the game at 67 with five minutes to go. The teams continued to swap the lead with Pensacola going ahead 72-71 with under two minutes courtesy of a Taylor Williams free throw. 

The Commodores had a one point lead with 21 seconds left in the game when Jordyn Neal drove the lane and made the shot while getting fouled. She knocked down her free throw to give the Lady Pirates a 75-73 lead. A defensive stop and Kaiya Burnett sunk two free throws to seal the win for PSC.

Jordyn Neal had a career high's with 26 points and seven rebounds. Kaiya Burnett had 21 points and Anita Payne added 14. 

Pensacola is now 2-3 in Panhandle play and will get some rest this weekend as they have a bye. They will travel to Chipola on Wednesday, January 29th for their next game.
