Lady Pirates Lose Heart Breaker to TCC

The Pensacola State women's basketball team could not hold off a late rally Saturday night by Tallahassee (TCC) and lost 68-64.

The Lady Pirates led throughout the first three quarters of the game and held a slim 47-45 lead at the start of the fourth quarter. Unfortunately for Pensacola the Eagles closed the game with a 14-5 run to take the win.

Pensacola was up 62-61 with a minute to go before TCC used a free throw to knot the score at 62 with 52 seconds left. The Lady Pirates could not convert on the offensive end and a pair of free throws from Tallahassee put them ahead 64-62 with 16 seconds remaining.

A turnover gave the ball back to the Eagles and they made it a two-possession game with 8 seconds to go. 

A timeout by Pensacola advanced the ball to half court and the Lady Pirates scored quickly to cut the lead to two. Tallahassee was able to clinch the game with two more free throws. 

Kaiya Burnett led all scorers in the game with 21 points while ZaMaria Polk recorded a double-double with 14 points and an outstanding 19 rebounds. 

Pensacola will travel to Northwest Florida on Wednesday, February 5th for a 5:30 pm game.
