Lady Pirates Sign Two

The Pensacola State women's basketball team has signed incoming freshmen Aniyah Brown and Jayla Labordeaux to letters of intent or the 2020-21 season.

Brown is a shooting guard from Cincinnati, Ohio and comes to the Lady Pirates from Walnut Hills High School (WHHS). In her time at WHHS, she averaged 12.9 points, 3.6 steals, 3 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game. She also shot 46.4% from behind the arc and 74.6% from the free throw line.

She is the definition of toughness and dominates on the defensive end, as well as being a threat on the offensive side with her scoring ability from anywhere on the floor.

Brown lettered all four years of her high school career and in her senior season she led her team to a sectional championship title while earning First Team All-Conference and Honorable Mention All-City. She was also awarded the MVP of the Carolina Invitational held in Charleston, South Carolina.

As a junior, she was named Second Team All-Conference and her team was conference, sectionals, and district champions.

Jayla Labordeaux is a 5'11, forward from Fort Mitchell, Kentucky and joins the Lady Pirates from Lloyd Memorial High School (LMHS). There she averaged 20 points, 15 rebounds, 10 blocks and 5 steals per game.

Labordeaux is a force to be reckoned with on the boards and makes it difficult for opponents to guard her due to her versatile ability to score anywhere on the court.

As a senior, she earned All-Conference Division II and 34th All-Tournament Team honors. She surpassed 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds and now holds the record for the most rebounds at LMHS. Labordeaux was also invited to play in the Kentucky-Ohio All-Star game following her senior season.

In her junior season, she earned a host of awards including NCKC All-Conference Team, All-Conference Division II, NKHAGBCA player of the week and the Stephanie Wilson Tournament MVP.

She plans to major in Sports Medicine.
