Lady Pirates Kickoff Season with Three Wins

PSC 73 Hillsborough 56

The Pensacola State women's basketball team opened their season Friday, November 4th against Hillsborough Community College in the Chipola Classic.

The Lady Pirates had a bit of a battle throughout the first half, only leading by a point going into the break. The start of the second half saw the Pirates sail ahead, outscoring their opponent 38-22 and securing the win.

Newcomer, Sh'Naya Anderson was the leading scorer with 18 points. She also nabbed seven rebounds and three steals in the matchup. Following close behind with 14 points and going 4-for-6 from the three-point line was freshman, Gabriela Bendeck-Giron. Returner Douthshine Prien recorded 13 points, nine assists, seven rebounds and six steals.

As a team, Pensacola notched an impressive 20 steals against the Hawks.

As the game started the Lady Pirates took the lead and did not look back. Nabbing 21 steals during the matchup and outscoring their opponents 45-22 in the first half alone.

In their second win of the season, PSC had multiple key players leading to the team's success. Freshman, Gabriela Bendeck-Giron put on quite the show, going 5-for-7 from the three-point line. She totaled 19 points and five steals during the contest.

Sh'Naya Anderson followed close behind with 17 points and went 9-for-11 from the free throw line.

Returners, Douthshine Prien and Debborah Redmon both recorded five steals in Saturday's win.

PSC 64 Bishop State 51

In their home opener the Lady Pirates kept their record perfect by securing a win over Bishop State.

Pensacola held a 31-24 lead going into halftime and came out of the locker room pouring on 22 points in the 3rd quarter.

Sh'Naya Anderson led the way offensively scoring 16 points while Nataya Lockett added 14 and Douthshine Prien chipped in 11. Deborrah Redmon came off the bench to pull down a team high seven rebounds and dish out six assists. 

The Lady Pirates will hit the road this weekend to participate in the Florida Southwestern Classic. They will face Miami Dade on Saturday and Florida Southwestern on Sunday.
