Lady Pirates Sweep the Weekend

The Pensacola State women's basketball team traveled to Gainesville for the Florida College's Women's Basketball Shootout. They won both games and individual game recaps are below.

PSC 71 Santa Fe 59

The Lady Pirates defeated hosts Santa Fe on Friday night. After a tight first quarter that had PSC ahead by only one, the Lady Pirates hit the gas in the second quarter. They outscored the Saints 17-8 and held a 36-26 lead going into halftime.

The offense remained steady throughout the whole game and Pensacola came out on top 71-59. Gabriela Bendeck-Giron led the team with 18 points while Sh'Naya Anderson added 15. Ja'miyah Bryant kept her streak of double-double games alive grabbing 18 rebounds and scoring 12 points. Deborrah Redmon recorded her first double-double of the season by pulling down 12 rebounds and scoring 11 points.

PSC 64 Indian River 61

On Saturday Pensacola took down no. 18 nationally ranked Indian River State in a close game. At the half Indian River held a 35-30 lead and the teams played an even third quarter that saw both teams score 19 points. 

The Lady Pirates defense locked things down in the final quarter and only allowed seven points while the offense put up 15 to secure the win. Ja'miyah Bryant shined again scoring a game high 19 points and pulled down 18 rebounds, including eight offensive. Nataya Lockett added 18 points and Sh'Naya Anderson contributed 11. 

Pensacola State sports an 11-2 record and broke into the NJCAA poll this week debuting at no. 17. They will host North Arkansas College on Friday, December 9th at 5:30 pm.
