Lady Pirates Top Chipola

Lady Pirates Top Chipola

It was a back and forth contest from the jump and the Lady Pirates outlasted Chipola, 59-53, on Wednesday to secure their first conference win.

At the close of the first quarter Pensacola was ahead by a single point and proceeded to be outscored by Chipola in the second to find themselves down 28-20 at halftime.

The Indians maintained control until PSC started to make a run with six minutes left in the third quarter and pulled within two with 4:15 left. With the score sitting at 41-36 in favor of Chipola, Ja'Vina Jackson drained and three and the Lady Pirate defense forced and turnover to setup Nataya Lockett to put PSC ahead with a 3-pointer from the wing.

The score sat at 44-41 for Pensacola at the start of the final quarter and Lockett kicked things off strongly by converting a 3-point play to extend PSC's lead. Chipola pulled within three points with 6:07 to go, but Jamiyah Bryant responded with a bucket to swing the momentum back to Pensacola. Down the stretch Deborrah Redmon and Douthshine Prien knocked down important free throws to maintain a cushion.

Nataya Lockett led Pensacola with 19 points while Ja'Vina Jackson came off the bench to chip in 10. Ciara Bailey was the leading rebounder with eight.

The Lady Pirates will travel to Tallahassee on Saturday to take on the Eagles at 2:00 pm EST.
