Lady Pirates Move to 10-0

Pensacola State women traveled across the state over the weekend for Region 8 action. First, the Pirates visited Tampa to take on the Hillsborough College Hawks. The weekend action ended with a stop in St. Petersburg to face the St. Petersburg Titans.

The Pirates got off to an impressive start taking a 29-10 lead over Hillsborough College (4-2) at the end of the first period. The second period of play was more competitive as the Hawks managed 21 points to the Pirates 24 and PSC led 53-31 at halftime.

In the second half, several Pirate turnovers and cold shooting allowed the Hawks to pull within 11 before the Pirates would ultimately take an 84-64 win.

Audreonia Benson was the Pirates leading scorer with 25 points on 8-for-15 shooting. Gabriela Bendeck-Giron added 22 while Jaida McDonald recorded another double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds.

Masiel Reyes scored 25 to lead the Hawks. Asnate Gerke and Kia'janae Gordan added 12 and 11 points, respectively.

In St. Petersburg, the Pirates bested the Titans (2-4) each period of the contest on their way to a commanding 83-49 victory.

Six Pirates scored in double figures in the final contest of the weekend. Jaida McDonald led PSC with her third double-double of week scoring 19 to go along with 10 rebounds. Reina Green also recorded a double-double for the Pirates with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Audreonia Benson had 16, Tanita Swift 12 with five steals, and Gabriela Bendeck-Giron and Terrianna Wilburn each added 10.

Kassadi King led St. Pete with nine points.

Pensacola State, now 10-0 on the season, host their annual Holiday Classic on December 8-9, 2023. The weekend matchups are as follows:
