Lady Pirates Down Bishop State

Pensacola State defended their home court last night in their final contest at Hartsell Arena in 2023 as they played host to the Bishop State Wildcats. The Pirate women extended their win streak to 13 games and will go into the break undefeated at home.

A competitive first period displayed both teams trying to establish itself as the more dominant group ended with the Lady Pirates leading 19-15. Pensacola State wasted no time in the second period asserting their dominance and showing Bishop State (8-4) why they boast a #7 national ranking. The Lady Pirates defense crippled the Wildcats allowing just 10 points while the offense erupted for 28 in the quarter to take a 47-24 lead into the halftime break.

The third stanza of the contest favored the Wildcats as they were able to outscore the Pirates 23-14 in the period and cut the PSC lead to 61-47 at the end of the third.

It was back to business for Pensacola in the final period as they pushed the lead back to 25 points for a final outcome of 89-64.

After being forced to sit for the majority of the second and third periods due to foul trouble, Audreonia Benson showcased her scoring ability in the fourth reeling off the Lady Pirates first seven points in less than 60 seconds. Benson finished with 15 in the final period and 22 total to lead all scorers. Gabriela Benson-Giron continued to prove herself as a steady scoring threat for Pensacola with 20 in the game. Jaida McDonald collected her sixth double-double of the season with 18 points and 16 rebounds while Tanita Swift finished with 16 points.

The undefeated Pirate women will travel to Ellersville, Mississippi on December 17, 2023 to face the Jones County Bobcats.
