Lady Pirates Bested by Chipola

The Pirates fell 77-62 to the Indians of Chipola College in their second Panhandle Conference outing.

No. 11 ranked Pensacola State (16-3) scored first to start the game before no. 25 Chipola (17-3) took a 3-2 lead on the next possession; and led the rest of the way.

Ice cold shooting and uncharacteristic turnovers saw the Pirates go down 33-25 in the first half. For the half, Pensacola managed just 9 of 30 shooting from the field (2 of 11 from distance), with 14 turnovers in the first two periods of play.

The Indians outscored the Pirates 44-37 in the second half of the contest to claim their first conference win and move to 1-1 while the Pirates dropped to 0-2 in Panhandle Conference play.

Gabriella Bendeck-Giron led the Pirates with 20 points. Jaida McDonald and Tanita Swift both chipped in 10 each.

Pensacola native, Tahnyjia Purifoy, led Chipola with 20 points and six assists.

The Pirates will be at home Saturday, January 20th to host Tallahassee Community College.
