Lady Pirates Drop Game to Gulf Coast

Pensacola State put Gulf Coast State to the test Wednesday night after the Commodores were assigned the top spot in the NJCAA Division 1 Rankings on January 28, 2024. The Pirates, having lost 84-60 in the previous matchup to GCSC on January 13, 2024, made a valiant effort to pull off the upset but eventually fell to the Commodores 69-59.

The Pirates got off to a solid start early and led Gulf Coast 16-13 at the end of the first stanza.

Gulf Coast would gain momentum in the second, outscoring the Pirates 22-11 in the period to take a 35-27 into the half time break.

After being down 55-39 to start the final period of play, the Pirates made a final push to get as close as 66-55 at the 1:40 mark. Free throws by both teams down the stretch provided the games 69-59 final score.

Tanita Swift led PSC with 14 points to go along with six rebounds and four assists. Nataya Lockett and Gabriela Bendeck-Giron added 11 and 10 points respectively for the Pirates.

Isimenme Ozzy-Momodu had a huge game for the Commodores with 25 points and 16 rebounds. Alieghya Bartholomew contributed 12 and Alisha Murray had 19 for GCSC.

The Pirates are back at Hartsell Arena this Saturday, February 3, 2024, for more Panhandle Conference action as they host Chipola College at 2:00 PM.
