In a thrilling contest that came down to the final seconds, Pensacola State fell just one play short of upsetting the No. 3 Chipola Indians. The Pirates outperformed the Indians in every period leading up to the final stanza, holding a 40-33 lead as they entered the fourth quarter.
However, the Pirates' scoring woes in the decisive period ultimately sealed their fate. They were outscored 14-6 in the final quarter, allowing the Indians to edge out a 47-46 victory. With just 12.2 seconds remaining and trailing by one point, Audreonia Benson came up with a crucial steal for the Pirates. Talia Kemp raced up the floor and attempted a contested layup but missed. Kemp managed to grab her own rebound but was again unable to convert the go-ahead basket. Arielle Facyson then secured the rebound for the Indians and advanced the ball up the floor before the Pirates could foul, securing the win for Chipola.
Audreonia Benson led the Pirates with 14 points and an impressive seven steals. Jaida McDonald contributed 12 points and eight rebounds. Despite their efforts, the Pirates couldn't overcome the absence of the conference's leading scorer, Kanija Daniel, who was out for the game. Trinity Carmouches stepped up for the Indians, leading them in scoring.
