Pirates Secure First Points in Conference Play

Friday, September 8th was the first conference match for the Pirate soccer team. They came out with fire and earned a point against Pasco-Hernando with a 1-1 tie. Paige Philips opened the scoring for the Pirates on an assist from freshman, Jenna Maiorino. Phillips cut the ball to her right foot and shot near post; the goalkeeper had no chance at making the save. Remy Redman kept the Pirates in the game with stopping a shot at point blank range. She finished the night with 12 saves.

On Saturday, the Pirates were at it again against Pasco-Hernando for round two. Paige Phillips stood out once more as goalkeeper Sidney Roest punted the ball to Phillips who brought it down and raced away to finish on a breakaway. Brianna Aaron added the second goal when the defender cleared the ball into Aaron and it went into the goal. Sidney Roest made some critical saves to help secure the Pirates a 2-0 victory.

Currently in Region 8 there are two Division II teams (PSC & Pasco). The champion of Region 8 will be decided on the next two matchups between these two at the end of September. The winner of Region 8 will then play the winner of Region 10 to see who makes it to the NJCAA National Tournament in Tucson, Arizona.

The Pirates are on the road on Monday, September 11th against Meridian Community College.
