Volleyball Opens Conference Play

The Pensacola State volleyball team traveled to Jacksonville this past weekend to compete in conference games against Florida State College Jacksonville (FSCJ) and Santa Fe.

They opened against Santa Fe on Friday and dropped a 3-0 decision. Jordan Wood led the hitters with seven kills in the match while Lindsey Stewart tallied 15 digs on defense.

The second match of the weekend against FSCJ was a five set thriller that PSC narrowly dropped 13-15 in the final and deciding set.

Middle hitters, Beaudine Verweij and Alex Pierre, had a great match and carried the offensive load with 64 attempts. Both players collected 10 kills and Pierre had a .240 hitting percentage.

Reilly Landreneau and Soleil Trejo both had superior defensive games as Landreneau led the defense with 29 digs and Trejo had 17 herself.

"We played tough the whole match and I am proud of the team for competing in five sets," said Head Coach Jennie Belarmino. "We have things to work on these next two weeks in practice and I know we will be ready to compete when we play these teams again at Santa Fe."
