Volleyball Has Big Week of Games

The Pensacola State volleyball team played three matches this past week and walked away with one win.

On Wednesday they traveled to Coastal Alabama-South and won in five sets. The whole match was hard fought with the team's defense and serving keeping them in the game.

Nicole Woods had five services aces and 14 digs while Natalie Woods chipped in six service aces. Reilly Landreneau had 25 digs in the game which landed her in the Region 8 25-Dig Club.

Head Coach Jennie Belarmino praised her team's scrappiness. "We served tough against a hardworking Coastal team and did not give up the whole match. It was an exciting game that came down to the last points and I am proud of my girls for fighting and being competitive from start to finish."

On Friday the team traveled to Gainesville for the second round of conference play. They lost to Florida State College of Jacksonville in three sets.

"It was a tough weekend due to players having to play out of position and trying new line ups," said Coach Belarmino.

Alex Pierre had 10 kills with a .471 hitting percentage and Brook-Lynn Sandford had nine kills with a .353 hitting percentage against FSCJ. Reilly Landreneau also tallied 18 digs.

On Saturday, the Pirates dropped a hard fought 3-1 match to Santa Fe. Madison Fisher collected 19 kills on 50 attempts while setter Lindsey Stewart did a good job facilitating the offense by moving the hitters around and collecting 13 digs.

"We want to set Maddie (Fisher) the ball because she is dependable and smart with her attacking. She is very good with seeing the court and what shots are open," praised Coach Belarmino.

Reilly Landreneau continued her solid defensive weekend by recording 24 digs.

The team will travel to Pearl River this week before they host the final two conference matches this weekend.
