The Pirates got back on the winning track on Friday when they picked up another conference win against St. Petersburg College.
Pensacola did not hold back against the Titans, finishing the match with a very controlled and powerful performance both at the net and in the backcourt as well. The Pirates dominated, winning the match in straight sets and not allowing the Titans to score more than 13 points each game.
Both Sophia Ortega and Tiana Curry led the team with nine kills each, while Julia Neveu led the backcourt with 19 digs. Cheyenne Strickland added an incredible 8-point service run in the second set while chipping in four aces total throughout the match.
Saturday featured the last home game of the season and the determined Pensacola State College squad did not leave any room for boredom in the gym.
The Pirates showed an incredible hitting efficiency right out the gate, hitting .470 with 18 kills on the first set alone, while also keeping the momentum on the second set by adding four blocks in a single game.
After PSC took the 2-0 game lead, Pasco-Hernando then turned the tide and scooped up the next two sets and extended the match to a fifth and deciding game.
The fifth set was an added thrill to the fans, while being played point-by-point with incredible digs from both sides of the net and the teams kept swinging away looking for an opportunity to score a well-fought point.
Once the scoreboard hit 10-10, the Pirates decided to buckle down and move forward before it was too late, ending the match 15-12 and coming out on top at the end of the day against a very tough opponent.
Sophia Ortega once again had a tremendous performance on both the offensive and defensive sides for the Pirates. Ortega scored 17 kills and added 22 digs in the match, marking her seventh double-double of the season.
Following in Ortega's footsteps, Amaya Bazemore came in full throttle adding 16 kills and hitting .542 for the entire match.
The Pirates are on the road this upcoming week, set to play at Gulf Coast State College on Wednesday, at 6:00 pm CST.
