Pirates Drop Two Over the Weekend

Pirates Drop Two Over the Weekend

The Pirates return home with two losses after facing a pair of tough conference opponents.

Their challenging weekend started versus Lake Sumter. After falling behind two sets, Pensacola State fought back and was able to win the third set 25-20. The Ladyhawks ended up closing the match out winning 3-1.

On Saturday, PSC headed to Palatka, Florida to face St. John's River. The Pirates started the match strong, forcing the Vikings out of system and jumping out to a 8-3 lead. St. John's gained their strength back, and slowly fought their way back into the set, tying the game 20-20. Both teams battled for the first win of the match, taking the first game into overtime, but the Vikings got the best out of the Pirates, closing out 28-26 on set one.

St. John's took the momentum and finished the match in three straight sets, closing out the weekend for the Pirate's.

Anyaliz Rodriguez led Pensacola with a total of 23 kills, followed by Brooke Sproat with 17 kills. Tiana Curry and Paige Patterson added 16 kills apiece.
