Volleyball Extends Win Streak to Eight

The Pirates finished this weekend on fire with two big wins over a pair of conference opponents, extending their win streak to eight matches.

On Friday night Pensacola faced St. Johns River and prevailed with a thrilling five set victory.

The first three sets went past the 25-point mark, giving the spectators a lot to cheer for. Pensacola State started the match a little slow on the offensive side, having to fight their way back throughout the entire set, but still not being able to win the first two games. The Vikings were still holding most of the momentum during the beginning of the third set, but the Pirates decided to turn the game around and slowly but surely found their way back tying the game 23-23. St. Johns then scored the next point, holding the match point, but their server missed her serve, allowing the Pirates to tie the game again 24-24. Tiana Curry came in clutch behind the service line and scored a service ace to put the Pirates ahead on the score board. PSC never looked back and finished the third set 26-24 against the Vikings and were able to carry the momentum inon the fourth set as well. Pensacola State won this exciting match, finishing 15-10 on the fifth set.

Brooke Sproat led the team in kills with 19, Anyaliz Rodriguez added 17, and Tiana Curry brought 11 kills with only one hitting error for the match. Kiara Vega led the team in assists with 32 and Julia Neveu kept the Pirates in the game with 21 digs total.

Saturday's match had a much better start for PSC as they were honoring the Sophomore class for the Sophomore Day event. The Pirates took charge right away on the first set, not allowing the Ladyhawks to compete the entire first game, finishing the set 25-9. The second set was a much different story, as Pensacola State was trailing behind for most of the game, but once they finally found their way ahead on the scoreboard, the Pirates never looked back, winning 25-21. PSC finished the match in three straight sets. Tiana Curry led the Pirates with 12 kills and only three hitting errors, hitting an outstanding .360 for the match. Katrina Espinosa led in assists with 19, and Julia Neveu had 16 digs for the match.

The Pirates play at home again this upcoming Tuesday against Lurleen B. Wallace, at 5:00 pm.
