Vega Wins National Awards

The Pirates sophomore, setter Kiara Vega made her mark last week as she was recognized nationally for her efforts. Vega was named the AVCA GameChanger Women's Two-Year College Player of the Week and the NJCAA DII Offensive Player of the Week.  

Vega helped the Pirates win all five of their matches last week, which included four sweeps, averaging 10.66 assists per set and 2.2 digs per set. She brought in 43 assists in both matches against NW Mississippi and St. Johns River as well as four kills, hitting 1.00% against Lake-Sumter State College. Vega setup the Pirates for success with an outstanding team hitting percentage of .283 for the entire week.  

Vega is the first Pensacola State athlete to be named the AVCA National Player of the Week and has helped her team build a 16-1 season record so far this season.
