Pirates Return to Play with Two Wins

After two weeks of training, the Pirates hit the road this past weekend and added two more conference wins to their record. On Friday, October 13th, Pensacola State arrived in Palatka, FL where they battled St. Johns River State College in a five-set brawl (25-21, 25-17, 20-25, 21-25, 15-11).

The offense for the Pirates was dominated by freshman, right side hitter, Cadence Goeden. Goeden led the team with 15 kills hitting an average of .413, followed by sophomore, outside hitter Anyaliz Rodriguez with 14. Setter Kiara Vega ran the offense bringing in 50 assists. Pensacola State deflected the Vikings' offense with a total of 88 digs, 29 of which were made by libero Maddie Mire

The Pirates made their way to Leesburg, FL on Saturday for another five-set victory against the Lake Sumter Lakehawks (25-15, 26-24, 21-25, 22-25, 15-11). 

Goeden had another outstanding statistical performance of 15 kills, with a hitting average of .433. Rodriguez recorded a double-double of 21 kills and 12 digs. Vega dished out 42 assists and led her team defensively with 18 digs in the fight against the Lakehawks.

Pensacola State hosts their annual Pirates in Pink match against Gulf Coast State College on Wednesday, October 18th. Fans are encouraged to wear pink in support of breast cancer awareness.
