Pirates Bounce Back with Sweep of FSCJ

The Pirates faced Gulf Coast State College Commodores on Wednesday in their last home match of the season and the annual Pirates in Pink, where Pensacola State honored those who have been affected by and have survived breast cancer.

The Pirates took a tough loss from the Commodores in three sets (16-25, 20-25, 23-25).

Gulf Coast put up a strong fight throughout the entire match, making it difficult for the Pirates to gain a lead and accelerate. After getting knocked down, the Pirates had to get right back up for another conference match.

Pensacola State took the court again on Friday, October 20th and faced the FSCJ Blue Waves in Jacksonville, FL. This time, finishing on top in three straight sets (25-23, 25-15, 25-21).

Outside hitter, Anyaliz Rodríguez dominated the match with a double-double of 13 kills and 10 digs. Middle blocker Paige Patterson dominated the front row bringing in 11 kills of her own. Setter Kiara Vega ran an efficient offense with 35 assists as well as 16 digs.

The back row for the Pirates kept the offense in the match with 61 digs, led by libero Maddie Mire with 19 of her own.

The clean sweep helped set the Pirates back on their feet before their next set of matches on Tuesday, October 24th against Enterprise CC and Lurleen B. Wallace CC.
