Volleyball Adds Two More Wins

Pensacola State traveled to Alabama for two back-to-back matches on Tuesday, October 24th. 

After almost a two month long wait since their first loss of the season, the Pirates finally stepped across the net from Enterprise State CC for the second time. 

The Pirates started the match off hot with 15 kills in the first set, securing a 25-20 set win. The Boll Weevils responded by snatching the second set, 25-15. Pensacola State bounced back in the third set with 13 kills and fought point for point with Enterprise. The Pirates pocketed another set win 25-22. The team carried their momentum into the fourth set, closing the match with 13 kills and a final score of 25-19. 

The Pirates put on a show at the net. Right side hitter Cadence Goeden and middle hitter Paige Patterson showcased 12 kills each. Outside hitter Anyaliz Rodriguez produced another double-double with 12 kills and 17 digs. Setter Kiara Vega dished out 42 assists, helping her team earn a total of 51 kills in the match. The Pirates also attacked behind the end line, racking up 10 aces against Enterprise. 

Pensacola's defense tallied up 79 total digs. Libero Maddie Mire led the defense with 24 digs. Defensive specialist Kathryn Lupo also scooped up 14 digs of her own. 

PSC hit the road for their second match against Lurleen B. Wallace at 5:00 p.m. and closed out their night with a 3-0 sweep against the Saints (25-19, 25-20, 25-23).  

Middle hitter Riley Carter dominated offensively by executing 12 kills, hitting an average of .360. Rodriguez also brought in nine kills, as well as, Patterson with eight. Vega helped her team rack up 37 kills by distributing 30 assists. 

The Pirates deflected the Saint's offense with 56 digs, 17 of which were from Mire. Defensive specialists Carly Cooper and Kathryn Lupo each tallied nine digs of their own to keep their offense alive. 

Pensacola State closes out their regular season this weekend with a trip to Calhoun Community College for the 2023 Warhawk Showdown.
