Pirates Top no. 5 Iowa Central in Opening Round

The Pirates are continuing their historic post-season run in Cedar Rapids, Iowa after defeating no. 5 Iowa Central in yesterday's game. No doubt about it, the Pirates had to fight until the very end, and there were tense moments that had fans on the edge of their seats. 

After PSC dropped the 1st set 25-20 they clawed their way back in the second set and an ace from Riley Carter secured the win for Pensacola. 

With the match tied 1-1, Pensacola jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the third, but Iowa Central went on a 10-1 run and carried the momentum to take a 2-1 lead. 

The teams traded points back-for-forth throughout the fourth set and PSC prevailed with a 26-24 win and forced a game deciding fifth set. 

The Pirates had their backs against the wall in the final set and were down 10-5 when Kathryn Lupo stepped the line to serve and ripped off six straight points to put the Pirates ahead 11-10. Pensacola went on to secure the win 15-12 and advance to the quarterfinals. 

Pensacola State will have their work cut out for them on Thursday as they take on Johnson County who is ranked no. 4. The game is scheduled to start at 5:30 pm.
