After a weekend of no competition due to Hurricane Helene, the Pirates could not wait to take their home court again. Pensacola State dominated the fourth weekend of Sun-Lakes Conference play, finishing 3-0 making their conference record 8-2.
Pensacola State 3, Florida State College at Jacksonville 0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-15)
Thursday's match was a solid 3-0 sweep against the Manta Rays.
The Pirates put on a show offensively, hitting an impressive .330 average. Cadence Goeden led with 15 kills, and hit an average of .545. Catie Woolf secured seven kills of her own with an average of .312. Maddie Mire manhandled the back row for the Pirates and tallied 26 digs, along with four assists. Brunna Marinari helped her team secure the win with 18 assists, seven digs and three service aces. Lauren Schuessler also made her mark and brought in 12 assists, two service aces and eight digs.
Pensacola State 3, Lake-Sumter State 0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-21)
Friday night was a tough battle against the Lakehawks, but the Pirates came out on top.
Pensacola's outside hitters dominated the front row again, Goeden notching 12 kills and Woolf earning another double-double with 10 kills and 14 digs. Freshman, middle blocker Reece Varden made her mark with seven kills, hitting a solid .500. Schuessler kept her team swinging and earned 21 assists and eight digs, along with Marinari who had 17 assists and seven digs. Mire fought off the Lakehawks with 22 digs.
Pensacola State 3, St. Johns River State 2 (24-26, 25-19, 25-18, 15-25, 16-14)
The Pirates honored Breast Cancer Awareness with their annual Pirates in Pink match on Saturday.
The nail biting five-set showdown was a revenge match for Pensacola since their first conference loss was to the Vikings. The offense for the Pirates were unstoppable; Varden had a career high of 22 kills hitting an average of .541 and 3 block assists. Rallying behind her was Goeden with 14 kills and three block assists. Riley Carter owned the net with seven kills, two solo blocks and two block assists against the Vikings. Behind the offense, four players made their way into double-digits for digs; Mire leading with 27, Olivia McDaniel with 12, Maddie Goodwin having 11 and Schuessler earning 14. Schuessler's defense contributed to her second double-double of the season (37 assists and 14 digs). Marinari helped keep the team in the fight by bringing in 20 assists and five digs.
