Pirates Overpowered by Commodores in Hard Fought Battle

PSC Volleyball (14-5, 8-3 SLC) met the Commodores on Tuesday for the second time this season. The Pirates put up a very tough fight, finishing each set within a five-point differential.
Gulf Coast made it difficult for the Pirates to stay ahead, as they produced 46 kills, 55 digs and four blocks. Pensacola State continued to push and gain momentum as the match carried on. Things were looking up for the Pirates in the third set as they held a lead at 22-18, but the team was unable to secure the set, allowing the Commodores to end the match in three.
Despite the outcome, the Pirates earned 33 kills, 67 digs and five blocks. Riley Carter led the offense with 10 kills, hitting .318 and combated the Commodores' attacks with three block assists. Lauren Schuessler brought in another career double-double with 14 assists and 17 digs. Brunna Marinari earned 12 assists and six digs. Maddie Mire worked to keep her team in the fight with 27 digs, three assists and one service ace.
Pensacola State is stepping into a big weekend of competition in their 2024 Pensacola Premier Tournament. Five ranked teams in Division II NJCAA will be competing Thursday through Saturday (10/17-10/19) in the Hartsell Arena. The Pirates will face Heartland (#6), Enterprise (#17), Johnson County (#3) and Cowley (#1).
