The Pensacola State women's cross country team hosted five teams on Saturday for the Lumberjack Open.
The event was well attended with 108 runners in three events. The cool early morning air and dry conditions proved to work in the runners' favor, making great times on the Pensacola State College Milton Campus 5 kilometer course. If you have not visited, the course is a mixture of packed dirt, grassy fields, and hills that wind through the tree covered route. There are exposed roots and complicated footing that are sure to challenge any runner.
In the high school division, the top women runners were Addie Brooks from Crestview High School with a time of 22:46.5, Alexis Parker from Pace High School with a time of 22:51.7, and Meriel Adair from Crestview High School with a time of 22:57.7. All of the top women finishers ran low 7 minute miles for the 5k distance. The top 3 men's runners were Gavin Schulte from Pace High School with a time of 18:03.1, Eli Tyner from Pace High School with a time of 18:24.6, and Gavin Anthony from Navarre High School with a time of 18:34.2. For the 5K distance, those times reflect the lead runners all running under a 6 minute mile the entire race distance. The winning teams with the high score were Crestview High School for the women's team and Pace High School for the men's team. The team scores are configured by each team's top 5 runners.
In the college division, the top three runners were all from Pensacola State College. Emmalei Miller with a time of 25:38, Kaydee Cook with a time of 27:24, and Jabria Brothers with a time of 30:14. The Pirates also took home the team trophy in the college division. Great job to all of the participants and a huge thank you to the PSC Women's Softball and Volleyball teams that helped prepare the course for such a large event.
