Cross Country Opens Season at Azalea City Classic

Pensacola State's Cross Country team ran their first race of the season on Friday. The Azalea City Classic is hosted by the University of South Alabama and draws NCAA, NAIA, and NJCAA teams.

The Pirates ran a fantastic race, placing fourth overall and was first in the NJCAA category. The first Pirate to cross the finish line was freshman, Landry Wagoner, in 19:41. Sophomore, Christine Clark, was the second PSC athlete with a time of 22:32 and following close behind was Jillian Thorton in 24:49, Sasha Hatcher in 24:52, and Sydney Smiga in 25:01.

Sophomores Alicia Hopkins and Akiyah Alden rounded out the team, coming in at 34:25 and 34:28, respectively. "With the first race behind us, we are excited to see what the 2024 race season holds," said Head Coach Julie Burger, "if you can't catch us this Friday at the Border Clash in Valdosta, Georgia; be sure to come out the to the UWF Argonaut invitational on September 20th"
