The Pirates started out the 2024 campaign with a loss to Meridian Community College. This is the second time these two teams have played each other with Meridian coming out on top both games.
The game was scoreless at the half with Remy Redmond making a few critical saves to keep the Pirates in the game. In the second half, Amelia Johnson found Jessica Duus in the center of the field who played a ball to Vivian Kettenhausen down the line, Vivian cut the ball back and cross it to Navarre High School graduate, Kaitlyn Lawson who took a left footed shot into the back of the net. Sidney Roest made some huge saves to keep the score at 2-1 until the end of the match.
On August 27th the Pirates took on the Pearl River Wildcats who are ranked as the 13th team in the nation. The Wildcats started off strong while the Pirates had a rough start in the first half. It was an intense fight from the whistle, but Pearl River led with more opportunities. This ultimately resulted in a corner kick for the opposing team, leading to the first goal of the match. Pensacola went into halftime after this wakeup call and rallied themselves for the second half.
As the game resumed the Pirates started to find a rhythm. They improved in many aspects including more chances towards goal. After pushing for some time, the Pirates found the equalizer which was scored by Paige Phillips and assisted by Eda Doganarslan and Aiyannah Robinson. This equalizer got the Pirates back into the game leaving them wanting more. As both teams kept pushing, the Wildcats were dangerous in the attack, but captain Remy Redmon kept the Pirates alive making a remarkable 15 saves. In the end, the Pirates came out on top after Gracie Savoie scored the game winning goal assisted by Maddie Motes and Lauri Scott. The Pirates turn their focus to Friday and the upcoming match against no. 5 Holmes Community College at 2:00 pm played at Ashton Brosnaham Stadium Field.
